TimeLine of Kenzie's Development

Since I didn't blog for the last four months, I made a time line of McKenzie so that you can see how she has been growing up.

  • At the Hospital

  • Home From the Hospital

  • First Month
McKenzie was born 7 lbs 10 oz and was 22 inches long. We went to the doctors two weeks later for a check up and she had already gained 2 lbs which told us that she was eating well. We could tell the she had gained some weight in her cheeks, thighs and chin. She would want to eat every 1.2 to 3 hours and her naps were about 2 hours long...even at night. When she nursed she would choke on the milk and throw it up about once a week. When I say throw up I mean extreme fountain of milk blasting from baby's mouth! By three weeks she would smile at us and look into our eyes...because at first she was a little cross eyed. She could hold her head up for about 10 seconds at a time at 4 weeks old. She loved taking baths, laying on mommy's tummy, sleeping in her swing and watching her butterfly mobile.

Being a mom for the first month was pretty tough. I had to learn what her cries meant, how to nurse her, trying to get her to sleep at night, but I think by 6 weeks, we had figured it all out.

  • Second Month
At her two month doctor's appointment she was 13.6 lbs and 24.5 inches long. (both in the 98 percentile.) We could tell she was getting much chubbier, her eyes were turning a light blue. She started to move and wiggle more than before and would put her hands in her mouth. The saddest part of the second month was that she got baby acne. It was really really bad. She had pimples all over her face, head and neck. It was so sad but we couldn't do anything about it. At 5 weeks old she would smile big smiles at us, and she started to make little cooing noises. She would finally sleep from about 10 pm to 6 am...which was amazing for me! The key: Swaddling her really tight. She loved to stick out her tongue, always had hiccups, and could hold her head up.

  • Third month
She probably weighed about 15 lbs. She had gotten much chunkier, her cheeks had gotten huge, her eyes were bright blue and red eyebrows were really red. She still hadn't grown any new hair but got a bald spot on the back of her head. The pimples were finally gone after about 5 weeks of them. Her favorite thing was sucking on her hand. New skills: grabbing her toes, rolls to her side, pick her head up when on her tummy, small laughs, started to drool! She is sleeping through the night for about 9 hours! She could sit up and stand up with some support, and will only nap in her swing. She was always alert and smiling at anyone who would talk to her.

  • Four Months Old
She weighed 16.8 lbs and was 26 inches.
She learned to roll over onto her tummy, but didn't like it once she got there. She giggles when her dad comes home from work and plays with her. Loves to jump in her Sassy seat (which is a jumping seat the attaches to the door). By the middle of the third month she started rolling over in both directions and could roll across the room. She is a pretty chunky baby, but healthy! She has started eating a couple solid foods: applesauce, rice cereal and carrots. She is growing a little hair back into her bald spot, takes about 3 or 4 naps a day. She loves to chew on everything, and she can almost sit up by herself...Maybe next month.

Since McKenzie has been home, life could not get any better. She is the bright light that wakes us up in the morning, the smile that keeps life happy it and the sunshine that makes it all worth while. It has been so fun watching her grow up.
