My new mission is to get Kenzie to sleep through the night. Ever since we moved, she has forgotten how to sleep at night and needs me to nurse her every hour.
Here is how she slept last night:
Morning Nap: 11:00am-2:00pm, in swing, swaddled, nursed to sleep
Nap: 4:00pm-6:00pm, in swing, swaddled, nursed to sleep
Bed 10:00pm, nursed to sleep, woke up when put in bed, patted her back in crib till asleep
Woke at 11:00pm, rocked her back to sleep, patted back in crib
Woke at 2:00am, brought her in my bed, nursed to sleep,
woke every hour until 8 30, nursed to sleep each time.
My goal:
Morning Nap: 10:00am-11:00am (at least 1 hour)
Early Afternoon Nap: 2:00pm-3:oopm (at least 1 hour)
Bed time: 7:00 pm
Wake for morning:7 am
Is this...possible? YES!
How, You might ask??
McKenzie's doctor told me that I have been scheduling McKenzie much too late, so this is what she advised me to do:
naps in crib only, bye bye swing!
Blanket, but don't swaddle.
Nurse until tired, but not asleep to get rid of sleep association
Earlier bed time means better sleep at night
When she wakes at night, no nursing, just pat her back in crib until sleep
I will update every day and show how it is going and track her progress. Hopefully by her first birthday she will be a great sleeper.
Something that I tried with Reagan is to create a bedtime routine. I would feed her at about 6:30 or so and then give her a bath and then turn out all the lights so it was semi dark. I would then give her a little baby massage put her pj's on and rock her to sleep and have her in bet at 7pm. It worked for us maybe something steady every night like a bedtime routine will help her know its time for bed. Its just a suggestion and we also read the book happiest baby on the block. I hope she remembers how to sleep through the night again. good luck.

ReplyDeleteHey, have you heard of the book Baby Wise? It talks about getting your baby on a schedule. It has similar advice that your doctor gave you in it as well.
